This is a very famous poem of Harivansh Rai Bachchan. We know nothing about where we go after death. The poet here expresses his apprehensions about the unfamiliar turf where one would find himself after the death and looks with a certain degree of nostalgia, about the familiarity of this world and the soothing company of the beloved that is sure to be lost as one meets death. As always, the meter of Bachchan is perfect and the substance of the poem is such that we readers immediately identify with it. This is what makes Harivansh Rai Bachchans poetry so remarkable. Yeh Arun Chood Ka Tarun Raag
Another picture drawn from words. An impression of early morning when the birds suddenly start to chirp in unison. Here also we find the amusing and funny idea of crows as the security guards of birds! Note also the lovely lilt of words arranged in a perfect meter - Shubham Sangole
Raat Raat Bhar Shwan Bhookte
Unfulfilled desires in our hearts do not let us live in peace and keep pocking us from inside. Bachchan found a very interesting metaphor in barking of dogs in the night. A lovely poem. Illustration by Garima Saxena – Shubham Sangole
Andheri Raat Main Deepak Jalaye Kaun Baitha Hai
Convictions are so rarely seen these days. We may have high and noble ideas but when it comes to actually do some thing about them, few actually step forward. In such a milieu, if we see some one actually sticking to his / her convictions and taking a stand even though it may worldly harm him / her, our heads bow down in deep appreciation. We see a great soul there and ask as Bachchan does in this moving poem, “Andheri raat main deepak jalaye kaun baitha hai ?” – Shubham Sangole
Do Nayan Meri Pratiksha Main Khade Hain

Now the vicissitudes of life worry him not because two loving eyes await him in the after-world - Shubham Sangole
Kab Mana Hai
Calamities come in every one’s life. There could be death of a near and dear one or losing love of one’s life. Desperation may follow and everything may look dark and hopeless. Here Bachchan Ji tells in his inimitable style, it is fine to light a tiny lamp to dispel that darkness. It is OK to get up and re-connect with the flow of life again. Very moving poem indeed, especially for those who have recently suffered some grievous loss. Shubham Sangole Keywords: Courage, lamp, new beginning, hope
